Recraft V4.1 takes longer and bills two. That gap is wide enough to move each model to a different stage of a project, and that shift is the thing the speed is actually changing.

It is not changing the spec sheet. Both output a 1K raster image, both accept a 10,000-character prompt, both offer the same nine aspect ratios, and both return up to six images at a time.

What it changes is where each one earns its place, and one hard limit settles that. Recraft V4.1 takes a source image, plus a weight that sets how hard it leans on that image. Flash accepts neither.

Recraft V4.1 Flash

Recraft V4.1

Released

September 2026

May 2026

Output

Raster, 1K

Raster, 1K

Max prompt length

10,000 characters

10,000 characters

Aspect ratios

Nine

Nine

Images per generation

1, 2, 4 or 6

1, 2, 4 or 6

Reference image

Not supported

Supported

Image weight control

Not supported

0 to 100, default 80

Rate

1 credit per generation

2 credits per generation

What the two models have in common

Start with the overlap, because it is most of the picture. Prompt length is identical at 10,000 characters, so neither model forces you to trim a detailed brief. The aspect ratio list is the same nine options, from 1:1 through 2:1 and 1:2. Framing is never the reason to switch.

Both accept the same count setting, returning 1, 2, 4 or 6 images from a single prompt. That matters more than it sounds. Batch size is usually where fast and slow models diverge, and here it does not.

Output resolution is the same too. Both are 1K raster models. If you need 2K or an editable SVG, neither of these two is the answer, and that is a different decision entirely.

What only Recraft V4.1 can do

Recraft V4.1 accepts a source image alongside the prompt. That single capability is the whole reason to pay the extra credit. It opens up work Flash structurally cannot do: restyling a photo you already have, generating variations anchored to an existing composition, carrying a look from one image into the next.

It also exposes an image weight, on a 0 to 100 scale with a default of 80. Low weight treats the reference as a loose suggestion and lets the prompt dominate. High weight holds the reference tightly and lets the prompt make smaller adjustments. That dial is what turns “here is a picture, do something like it” into a repeatable process.

Recraft V4.1 is also the model the rest of the line is built around. Higher-resolution and vector counterparts exist for when the same brief needs a print-ready or scalable version. Flash has no such counterparts.

What Flash gives you instead

Flash trades those inputs for speed and price. A generation comes back in about 1.3 seconds at a median, and each one bills a single credit. Thirty exploratory passes therefore cost thirty credits here and sixty on Recraft V4.1.

That gap is the argument, more than the stopwatch is. Exploration only works when rejecting an output is cheap. Halving the rate doubles how many rejections the same budget absorbs, and most of an exploratory session is rejections.

Quality does not fall away in proportion. Fast models typically pay for speed with a flattened, anonymous look, and Flash was built specifically to avoid that. It can stand in for the slower model through the whole stage where you are only deciding direction.

What neither model does

The comparison has an outer boundary worth naming, because it rules both models out of a whole category of work.

Neither produces vector output. Both are raster models, so logos, wordmarks and anything that has to scale cleanly to a billboard need a vector model instead, not a choice between these two.

Neither renders above 1K. Print-ready work at higher resolution is a different model again. And neither takes a style parameter on Picsart, so matching a defined house style is its own separate job rather than a setting you toggle here.

Both also cap at six images per generation. If a brief needs forty options, that is several runs on either model, and at that volume the credit difference is the only thing separating them.

Which one to pick

The decision comes down to one question: do you have an image that needs to be in the input?

Pick Recraft V4.1 when the answer is yes. Restyling an existing photo, iterating on a composition you already like, keeping a series visually consistent, producing a final frame that has to hold up: these all call for the reference image and the weight control.

Pick Flash when the answer is no. Early concepting from a written brief, exploring directions before anything is settled, generating options to react to, any high-volume pass where most outputs exist to be rejected. A reference image would not help on those jobs. Paying double for an input you are not using is simply paying double.

A practical pattern: explore in Flash until a direction is clearly right. Then move to Recraft V4.1 once you have an image worth building on. The prompt carries over, since both models read prompts the same way.

How to switch between them in Picsart

Both sit side by side in the Picsart AI Playground model list, so switching is a matter of selecting a different name.

                            1.
                            Open the model picker

Both Recraft models sit in the same list in the Picsart AI Playground.

                            2.
Pick by input, not by ambition

Select Recraft V4.1 Flash for a prompt-only pass, or Recraft V4.1 when you have a reference image to attach.

                            3.
Set the weight if you attached an image

On Recraft V4.1, the image weight defaults to 80.
